Weekend Edition

Drunken screams from the bar below my apartment of "oh my god it's finally winter" are telling me it's going to be a cold weekend in New York. Might as well get some culture and maybe grab some Viennese hot chocolate while you're at it.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON
FOOD: Cafe Sabarsky @
Neue Galerie
Website + Review + Map
Our Take: This is a great little Viennese cafe inside the Neue Galerie. Definitely worth checking out for a full meal or just the excellent pastries and cakes with coffee or hot chocolate. There's sometimes a wait at peak eating times on weekends, but the line usually winds down quickly. Start here and then head across the street to the Met.

ART: Metropolitan Museum of Art -
Glitter and Doom: German Portraits from the 1920's
Visitor Info + Review + Map
Our Take: You can take an hour and check out just the Glitter and Doom exhibit or extend it and dig into the permanent collection if you want more time. Can't go wrong with the solid modern art collection, especially when it's freezing outside.

SUNDAY AFTERNOON

It's cold. Take comfort in the best of a NYC essential and hibernate. Here's where you'll find NYC's best smoked salmon.

FOOD: Russ & Daughters (Houston between Allen & Orchard)
Website + Review + Map
Our Take: NYC's best smoked salmon, really. No tables here, so take it home and get out of the cold. They have a huge selection of smoked salmon and everything else you need to go along with it (i.e. bagels, cream cheese etc.). This is good stuff. You won't regret the trip.
