FREEMAN'S

FOOD & BOOZE: FREEMAN'S (Freeman Alley, off of Rivington b/w Bowery & Chrystie)
Site + Menu + Map
Our Take: This room, at the end of a short alleyway, sports a dark wood & taxidermy theme. You might think this is a little strange, but it's worth it. Because the food is fantastic. Expect a wait on almost any day during prime eating hours. Or pull together a party of 6 and avoid the wait with a reservation. But waiting for a table at this oh so happening LES spot might not be such a bad idea. Because the creative cocktails should keep you happily busy at the bar until your table is ready.

Recommendations: Both dinners and brunches have been memorable. We're big fans of Devils on Horseback (read dates wrapped with bacon) and the fennel salad was excellent. The roast chicken was also very good. For brunch, take your pick. Everyone we ate with has referenced it as a great brunch spot weeks after the meal. On the cocktail front, we're big fans of the Blood & Sand, if you can take it.

Complaints: Watch out for the "I'm so cool" attitude from the not so cool hostess. We recommend you deal with her as little as possible and focus on enjoying the quality food that comes out of the kitchen.

Details: Dinner from 6-11:30 every day. Brunch from 11-4pm Sat & Sun.
